Austin Marathon
A group of Striders made a quick trip down and back to run in mild conditions at the Austin Marathon or Half Marathon on February 15th. Bob Wenger set a personal best with a time of 3:50:03, placing 22nd out of 106 in his age group. Brad and Marla Rhoden both won their age groups with times of 3:09:32 and 3:29:24 respectively.
Sharon Wenger and Norma Weiser as well as Strider member Gordon Rostvold, who now lives in the Austin area, ran the half-marathon. Former club member Gail Leedy came down from snowy Laramie to run her first non-trail race in years and ran very well, placing 2nd in her age group in the marathon.
The Topeka group got to spend some time with friends, who are now former residents, as we met up with Gail and Maryann and Maryann's daughter, an Austin resident for lunch and later that evening we enjoyed some catching up and a great pre-race dinner at the Rostvold's.
