Sunflower Striders Board Meeting Minutes
January 31, 2010
Present: Brad Rhoden (President), John Patch (Vice President), Hunter Munns (Treasurer) Debbie Pryor (Secretary) Marla Rhoden (Member at Large), Norma Weiser (Member at Large), Paul Wagner (Member at Large), Becky Collins (Member at Large)
Brad opened the meeting with a presentation of appreciation to Norma with an award from the Roadrunners Club of America recognizing her as an outstanding volunteer in the community. The board commended her on the countless hours she gives to supporting her running community.
Brad communicated that he recently met with Kevin Lemasters (new GPRC investor) who shared his interest in connecting with the Striders. Kevin would like to see the Striders and the store work toward continued positive support of each other.
The anticipated closing of Maximus was discussed and how it might effect the weekly Wednesday night Striders run.
Brad requested that Norma create a race calendar for the first half of the year with dates, times, locations, and how many volunteers are needed for each race. With the new year a charge of $1 per entrant is now being enforced. Some of the upcoming races are:
- Race against Racism
- Run for Life
- Run for Ronald
- Heritage Christian
Brad will be keeping track of race participation by club members for the 2010 year incentive program.
Team in Training recruited Brad as a coach/mentor.
There was discussion of getting together with the Washburn Marathon Class periodically for group runs. Paul extended an invitation to all Striders to meet at his home, along with the Washburn group, on March 13th for a fun run and breakfast. The start time will be 8:00am and the course will be T2A. He has also suggested the two groups meet up for a run on Saturday February 21st.
The newsletter will be released shortly, all articles and reminders should be turned into Becky.
Brad made a motion to donate $250.00 in support of the Sunflower State Games. The board consented. It was suggested that Striders applications be displayed on registration tables at the games.
Hunter reported that we concluded the year with 157 membership units and the account balance is currently at $5200.00. He also reported that approximately 36 renewals/new members were received through T2A. There are 66 renewals for 2010. Hunter also made a motion to make Dick Ross an honorary member and invite him to the Striders banquet/dinner. The board concurred.
The remainder of the meeting was spent recapping post T2A details.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 3-14-10 at Classic Bean in Fairlawn Plaza.
