Sunflower Striders Board Meeting Minutes
May 10, 2008
Red Robin Restaurant
Present: Brad Rhoden (President), John Patch (Vice President Nominee), Marla Rhoden (Member at Large), Norma Weiser (Member at Large), Debbie Pryor (Secretary Nominee), Kelly Christensen (Treasurer), Charles Steinkuehler (Member at Large), Becky Collins
John Patch accepted the Vice President position and Debbie Pryor accepted the secretary position on the board.
It was decided that the board would start meeting as needed rather than monthly. The next board meeting is scheduled for June 8th at 5:00 at Brad and Marla Rhoden’s home.
The Striders will not be hosting fun runs this year as they have in the past, but are open to helping individuals that plan an event. This decision was made due to lack of attendance for such activities. There will also be no August picnic due to poor turnout. However, the Thanksgiving Fun Run at Lake Sherwood will still be held this year.
Brad’s priority is to move forward with a full board and grow the membership of the club. The number of members has stayed at approximately 130 with little to no growth.
The new clock and timing equipment was demonstrated forthe board. The cost for the new equipment was just over $3000.00. We discussed getting together to practice using the new equipment before upcoming summer scheduled events. The events currently scheduled, that we will be using the new clock for are the Sabetha 5K, Fiesta, and Governor’s Cup.
Charles Steinkuehler gave an update on the web site. He is hoping to have changes and updates finished before the board meets again in June.
Kelly Christensen is going to take over adding race results to the web site again.
Brad would like to encourage Striders to send in articles for the newsletter. The articles should be forwarded to Becky Collins or Sarah Larrison.
Board involvement and responsibilities for Topeka to Auburn were discussed briefly. The preparation for the event will start in August. Mizuno will likely be a sponsor again next year.
Norma Weiser made a suggestion of donating Strider money to help finish the sidewalk under the bridge at 29thand Randolph. She was going to look into it further and report back to the board in June.
